This personal project was started as a means to illustrate a “frame within a frame” as a strong compositional element. I liked the infrared image in the center and wanted to somehow frame it in a way that the frame related to the subject matter.
To accomplish this I collected several dead leaves and placed them on a flatbed scanner. From my scanned image of the leaves, I began creating “frames” until I was satisfied, then inserted the original image back. The small amount of hand tinting in the infrared image was also done with a Photoshop brush shaped like a leaf.
Below is some visual info on the elements I collected to assemble this final image. Below that is a version of the image we ended up using for a holiday card.
